The mighty Amazon rainforest straddles nine countries over 2 million square miles. It represents half of the world’s natural rainforest and is the most species rich in the world with many unique animals and plants. Iquitos is truly an Amazonian city – the largest city in the world that cannot be reached by road it is only accessible by plane or a boat from the Amazon river.
DAY 1: IQUITOS – AMAZON RIVER
Reception and transfer to the fluvial port to begin navigation for about 3 hours going upriver on the famous Amazon River. Accommodation at lodge. Lunch. In the afternoon, we will walk through the jungle and observe the great amount of trees, bushes and animals typical of this fascinating region. Dinner.
DAY 2: AMAZON
Breakfast. We start the adventure with a walk to the river Tahuayo, observing the different species of insects, birds, monkeys, butterflies and other animals found in the Amazon jungle. Lunch.
At night, we will go on an excursion to see alligators (caimans) or lizards of the jungle. Dinner.
DAY 3: AMAZON
Breakfast. We will go by canoe excursion of the river and nearby lakes. We will take long walks to observe monkeys, sloths and other animals, always accompanied by expert guides.
Before lunch we will have time to enjoy a refreshing swim in the lagoons. In the afternoon we can go fishing for piranhas in the Corrientillo Lake, right in the middle of the jungle. Dinner.
DAY 4: AMAZON
Breakfast. Early in the morning we will begin an excursion to watch the birds eating the fruits from the trees. We will see parrots, herons, toucans, ducks and eagles which are the most abundant species of the region.
We will also see the biggest aquatic plant of the world: the famous Victoria Regia. In the small town of San Juan de Yanayacu we will have the opportunity to interact with the people of this community. Dinner.
DAY 5: AMAZON – IQUITOS
Breakfast. We will navigate towards the Pungal, a favorite spot to observe the Hoatzin or Shanso bird. This bird is a relic of the pre -historic age with 3 claws in the middle joint of its wing. After lunch we begin navigation of 3 hours back to the city of Iquitos. Transfer to the airport.
