ABOUT LAKE TITICACA AND PUNO
Lake Titicaca is the largest lake in South America and can be viewed from both Peru and Bolivia as it straddles both neighbouring countries. The origin of its name is unknown, but it has been translated as “Rock Puma”, as local communities have traditionally thought the lake’s shape resembled a puma hunting a rabbit.
Puno is a city located on the shore of Lake Titicaca and is the capital of the region. Puno’s access to the lake is surrounded by 41 floating islands; some of which you will visit on this tour. The Uros people live and maintain these man-made islands and depend on the lake for their survival; a unique and facinating culture.
