Tour to Peru: Machu Picchu, Andes & Titicaca Lake


This tour to Peru includes two of its most impressive touristic sites: Machu Picchu in Cusco and Lake Titicaca in Puno. The combination of the the grandeur of the Inca Empire and the natural beauty of the highest lake in the world makes this tour second to none.

At the appointed time, your guide will pick you up from the hotel for a city tour around Lima. This private tour starts with a drive to the Park of Love in Miraflores, where you can enjoy the modern surroundings and a beautiful view of the Pacific Ocean. Then, the tour continues at the aristocratic, residential suburb of San Isidro, followed by a drive to the Colonial area and the Plaza Mayor, where you will see the Government Palace, the Lima Cathedral, the Archbishop’s Palace and the City Hall. The tour ends with a visit to the XVII Century Church and cloister of San Francisco, a world cultural heritage. Overnight at selected hotel.

At the suitable time, private transportation to take the flight to Cusco. Upon your arrival at Cusco, you will be taken to your hotel in a private car. Free time available to rest and get used to the altitude. In the afternoon you will explore for three and a half hours the most magical city, Capital of the Inca Empire (XV century) on a tour including the Main Square, the Cathedral, Santo Domingo Monastery – the legendary Koricancha Temple, and the old town with its very narrow streets. Then comes a drive outside the city to visit the archaeological Inca ruins of Tambomachay, Qenqo, Puca Pucara and the impressive fortress of Sacsayhuaman, overlooking Cusco.

After breakfast you will enjoy a full day excursion to the “Sacred Valley of The Incas”, on the Urubamba River. You will have the opportunity to shop in the lively and colorful Indian market of Pisac where the locals sell or exchange their products, as their ancestors did hundreds of years ago. After lunch in a traditional restaurant, passing through the towns of Calca and Urubamba, you will visit the Inca Fortress and Citadel of Ollantaytambo, built to guard the entrance to this part of the valley, and protect it from the possible invasion of the tribes in the lower jungle. The fortress consists of a series of carved stone terraces accessed through long stairways.

Early in the morning, transportation to the train station to take the train to Machu Picchu and the village of Machu Picchu.

You will take a bus to the authentic site of the “Lost City of the Incas”. Your guide will take you throughout the vast ruins. Machu Picchu is the best known of the Inca ruins, as acknowledged worldwide, yet it is not mentioned in any of the writings of the Spanish Conquerors. It is believed that it was built around mid 15th century and was “rediscovered” by American historian Hiram Bingham in 1911.

The guided tour of this fascinating place is an awe-inspiring experience. Visit the Main Square, the Royal Quarters, the Temple of the Three Windows, the Circular Towers, the Sacred Sun Dial and Burial Grounds. After the excursion you’ll enjoy a delicious buffet lunch.

Today is your chance to watch the sun rising over Machu Picchu and to listen to the spirits of the city’s ancient inhabitants (no guide included today). For hiking enthusiasts, going up the Huayna Picchu peak overlooking the site is suggested. Return to Cusco in the afternoon and transportation to your hotel. Overnight in the selected hotel.

Transfer to the bus station to take the ride to Puno. During the trip the bus will make some stops at important points like: Andahuaylillas, a church considered as the “Sistine Chapel of the Americas” because of the quality of the artworks found inside it. Raqchi, to visit the “Wiracocha Temple” that according to the old chroniclers was built to honour the Supreme God of the Incas: “Apu Kon Titi Wiracocha”. La Raya, the highest pass on the route (4312 meters/14000 feet). Pukara, an archaeological complex formed by a pyramidal structure. This is the first sign of civilized culture in the Peruvian plateau.

In the morning, you will take a boat to visit the Uros and Taquile islands. The first stop is the Uros, known as the “floating islands” because they are made with totora (kind of reed) by its inhabitants. Then, you will take the boat to continue towards the Taquile island. There, you will be welcomed by the community, and visit the numerous pre-Inca and Inca ruins. You will return to Puno in the afternoon. Overnight at the selected hotel.

Transportation to the airport. On your way to the airport, visit the famous Chullpas of Sillustani, 12 m/40ft high stone cylinder burial chambers, used by the Aymaras to bury their important leaders.
