Tour to Peru: Misticism in Machu Picchu

ABOUT THE TOUR

This tour centres on Machu Picchu – the ‘lost city’ built by the Incan people amongst the Andes mountains. It was abandoned by the Incas when the Spanish invaded in the 1500′s but since it was unknown to the them it was left untouched. Voted one of the modern seven wonders of the world it is certainly a wonder to see!

Starting in Lima this tour takes you to Puno, Cusco, Machu Picchu and Iquitos in the Amazon rainforest.

DAY 01: LIMA

Reception and transportation to the hotel.

DAY 02: LIMA

At the appointed time, your guide will pick you up from the hotel for a city tour of Lima. This private tour starts with a drive to the Park of Love in Miraflores, where you can enjoy the modern surroundings and a beautiful view of the Pacific Ocean. Then, the tour continues to the aristocratic, residential suburb of San Isidro, followed by a drive to the Colonial area and the Plaza Mayor, where you will see the Government Palace, the Lima Cathedral, the Archbishop’s Palace and the City Hall. The tour ends with a visit to the XVII Century Church & cloister of San Francisco, a world cultural heritage. Overnight at selected hotel.

DAY 03: LIMA/PUNO

At the appointed time, private transportation to the airport and flight to Juliaca. Upon arrival, meeting at the airport and transportation to the selected hotel in Puno. On the way, visit to the famous Chullpas of Sillustani, 12 m/40ft high stone cylinder burial chambers, used by the Aymaras to bury their important leaders. Overnight in the selected hotel.

DAY 04: PUNO

After breakfast, you will take a two-hour motor boat excursion on the waters of Lake Tititcaca to the unique Floating Islands of the Uros.

These ancient inhabitants of the lake, known as the Water Tribe, have built their own “islands” by periodically adding new layers of a type of reed unique to the area called “totora”. Their homes and boats are also made from this material.

After having experienced some of the ancient traditions of the local people, you continue your motor boat trip to Taquile Island. Meals included: Breakfast. (B)

 

DAY 05: PUNO

After breakfast, Tour to Sillustani.

Overnight in the selected hotel.

DAY 06: PUNO/CUSCO

Early transportation to the bus station for your 9-hour trip to Cusco. During this time,  you will enjoy marvellous scenery and typical animals like the “llama”, “alpaca”, etc, while entering the Sacred Valley of the Incas. Arrival, meeting and private transportation to the selected hotel. Overnight in the selected hotel.

DAY 07: CUSCO

Explore the most magical city, Capital of the Inca Empiere (15th century) on a tour including the Main Square, the Cathedral, Santo Domingo Monastery -the legendary Korikancha Temple – and the old town with its very narrow streets. Drive out of the city to visit the archaeological Inca remains of Tambomachay, Qenqo, Puca Pucara and the impressive fortress of Sacsayhuaman overlooking Cusco. You will be part of the Pay Motherland Ceremony. This 40 min. mystic session will be executed in a zone near the Sacsayhuaman fortress in the Llaullipata forest. Overnight in the selected hotel.

DAY 08: CUSCO/SACRED VALLEY

Excursion to the “Sacred Valley of the Incas”, over Urubamba River. You will have the opportunity to shop in the lively and colorful Indian market of Pisac where locals sell or exchange their products, as their ancestors did hundreds of years ago.

After lunch, passing through the towns of Calca and Urubamba, visit the Inca Fortress and Citadel of Ollantaytambo, built to guard the entrance to this part of the valley, and protect it from a possible invasion of the tribes in the lower jungle. The fortress consists of a series of stepped, carved stone terraces accessed by long staircases.

Overnight in Sacred Valley.

DAY 09: SACRED VALLEY/MACHU PICCHU

Early in the morning, transportation to the train station to take the train to Machu Picchu and the village of Machu Picchu. You will take a bus to the authentic site of the “Lost City of the Incas” Your guide will take you throughout the vast ruins. Machu Picchu is the best known of the Inca ruins, as acknowledged worldwide, yet it is not mentioned in any of the writings of the Spanish Conquerors. It is believed that it was built around mid 15th century and was “rediscovered” by American historian Hiram Bingham in 1911.

The guided tour of this fascinating place is an awe-inspiring experience. Visit the Main Square, the Royal Quarters, the Temple of the Three Windows, the Circular Towers, the Sacred Sun Dial and Burial Grounds. After the excursion you’ll enjoy a delicious buffet lunch. Overnight in the selected hotel.

DAY 10: MACHU PICCHU/CUSCO

Today is your chance to watch the sun rising over Machu Picchu and to listen to the spirits of the city’s ancient inhabitants (no guide included today). For hiking enthusiasts, going up the Huayna Picchu peak overlooking the site is suggested. Return to Cusco in the afternoon and transportation to your hotel. Overnight in the selected hotel.

DAY 11: CUSCO/ LIMA / IQUITOS

Transportation to the airport, assistance on departure time. Arrival at Lima. Reception and then a brief visit to the town and market, transportation to the river dock where you will board the boat and set forth down the river to arrive at the Lodge. After enjoying an exquisite –and typical welcome drink, you will settle in our comfortable bungalows. Overnight at the Lodge.

Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner. (B. L, D)

 

DAY 12: IQUITOS

After breakfast, a long walk in the forest around the Lodge for relaxation and concentration. After lunch, a brief lecture is given by the shaman in order to achieve greater effectiveness of the session that will take place. At 8:00 pm (without having eating any dinner), the session of meditation and concentration starts, with the participation of the Shaman Teacher. Under his guidance, participants will undertake activities of spiritual purification, cleansing and healing which lasts till after midnight. Overnight at the lodge.

DAY 13: IQUITOS

Breakfast, rest of the day for meditation. Lunch. In the evening, optional visits to a local family, the botanical garden or an ecological pool.  Overnight at the lodge.

DAY 14: IQUITOS

Lodge Activities.
